Hi friends. It was a rough week here at the Right Fits; I wrote a post all about saying goodbye to my beloved Matilda, please read that here.
This is my recap of training for the Paris Marathon on April 13.
Monday: A rest day. An awful day. More on this post.
Tuesday: Dustin, Ruth, and I did a 6.7 mile run together, reminiscing about the best good girl. We both worked from home, and to be honest, I spent a lot of the day looking through pictures of Matilda and crying. I wasn’t my most productive self.
I did drag myself to a Heartcore class after work. Movement is good.
Wednesday: Back to the office. I ran-commuted with my friend Tina and then did the office run for 7.7 miles total. It was below freezing, which is cold for London!

Thursday: A “split” 30 minute tempo: warm-up, 10 minutes at tempo, 2 min jog, 10 minutes at tempo, 2 min jog, 10 minutes at tempo, for 8 miles total.
Friday: An easy run with the London Tracksmith group; this was my first time joining their Friday run, which was nice! My friend Katy was there too, who I hadn’t run with in awhile, so that was grand.
I combined the run with an appointment for a quick blood draw- I had a recent wellness check where my potassium was too high. I think I was overdoing it with Liquid IV drinks to be honest, which are very high in potassium. I cut those out and my potassium is back in the normal range. (whew! High potassium is hard on your heart.) You might remember when I ran the Vienna marathon, I had a bit of a scare with dehydration and my kidneys; but I realize that a drink like LIquid IV is really only needed (for me) on the really hot sweaty runs, not every day.
All in, I covered another 8 miles before work, and then fit in a 3rd Heartcore class of the week over lunch.
Saturday: 15.5 mile long run with the Mornington Chasers south to Battersea Park in time for their 9 am parkrun. The Battersea parkrun is one of the biggest in London- over 1500 participants on a given Satruday!
Maybe TOO big, I didn’t love it, even though it is a fast parkrun. I did pick up the pace for the parkrun with 7:39 min/mile average pace, with the rest of the long run nice and easy with friends.
The rest of Saturday was chill, with a long walk in the Heath with Ruth, and then we went to see the movie “A Real Pain” which was enjoyable for a laugh.
Sunday: 6.5 mile run with Dustin and Ruth followed by an at-home strength session.
I realized on the run that my nails coordinated with my dog, ha!
Poor Ruth…she is a bit lost without her best friend. We can tell she’s anxious because she’ll steal as many socks as she can and bring them to her cozy cove or carry them around when she comes to greet us at the door.
I had some photos taken in the Heath by the incredible Amie Barron back in early November; the framed print I ordered just arrived this week. I can’t wait to hang it up on the wall. It will be treasured.
Well, that’s a wrap. Running and movement were definitely helpful during this week of grieving. There will never be another Matilda. Dogs aren’t our whole life, but they make our lives whole. She will forever be missed.
